The Holiday Survival Guide:  Ballroom Dance Edition

The Holidays can be the best excuse to start your ballroom dance lessons, or just a yearly appointment to postpone them.

Here's a collection of some classic Holiday moments that may, under ordinary circumstances, cause you to lose your Christmas spirit - then we'll show how social dancing just may save the day.

Office Party Remix

Just the phrase "office party" can conjure up images that you wish you could unsee.

Whether it was your boss attempting to regale your colleagues with his days as a breakdancer, someone toasting a few too many times, or anything involving a copy machine...

.. it's time to let dancing remix your Office Party.

Holiday Survival Verdict: The only image your boss and co-workers will have of you, will be of you on the dance floor.  So while security is tracking down the copy machine culprit, your boss and co-workers will be tracking you down for dance pointers.

Turn the dance floor into your temporary office and you'll have plenty of dance appointments to get to.

Black Friday Batteries

Black Friday is a day where the Holiday Shopping Champions collide and the weary shoppers are swallowed up.

The missing ingredient: Endurance.

We're not suggesting that your dance lessons will help you find that new gaming console or get you a better deal on a flat screen TV, but it can keep you in great shape, improve your stamina, and give you the agility to shop with the best of them.

So while your fellow shopping war soldiers are downing extra shots of espresso in their pumpkin spice lattes; you’ll be energized as you waltz your way through the shopping combat zone.

Holiday Survival Verdict: Dancing builds endurance, balance, and nimble footwork to vanquish even the greatest Black Friday challenges.

Improve Your Gift Carding Skills

"Sorry, you're just so hard to shop for"

You’ve used it. Your brother has used it. Your Aunt definitely has used it.  It’s the Standard Gift Card Apology when someone wants to give you something nice, but wants to play it safe.

Maybe it's Amazon, Starbucks, or your favorite clothing store to get the stuff you know you'd like.

Arthur Murray Gift Card offers an experience, not just more stuff.

Whether it is the gateway to an exciting new hobby, or just a unique upgrade to the typical gift card stocking stuffer, this is one present that won't be regifted.

Holiday Survival Verdict: Trade that pound of coffee, for a ton of Tango, Swing, and Salsa this Christmas.

Tis the Season to Eat Carb-y

"Fa la la la la, la la la…. I gained how much weight?!"

We may not be able to eliminate your candy cane addiction, but we can tell you that every dance lesson can burn 300-600 calories.

You may give in to the holiday food you love so much, but dance lessons can limit or, even, reverse the damage of figgy pudding and the rest of the carbtastic food you may find on your holiday plate.

Holiday Survival Verdict: We may be our own worst enemy in this department, but dance lessons are a great, and enjoyable, Carb-Insurance policy.

Holiday Survival Dances for Limiting Carb Damage: Cha-Cha, Swing, Salsa, Merengue, Lindy Hop, Samba

Make Some Dance Resolutions (Early)

Instead of the typical New Year's Resolutions that vaporize a day after you make them, we suggest you make some Dance Resolutions.

Where would you love to go dancing?

How would you like to feel to your partners?

What level of dancer would you like to become?

The sooner you get started on your dance resolutions, the sooner you can build momentum in your hobby.

Holiday Survival Verdict: Too often, we use a resolution as a safety net for recovering the momentum we lost through the Holiday season.

Holiday Survival Recommendation: Start your dance resolutions immediately.

Happy Dancing.
