What is the AM All Star Competition?

The Arthur Murray All Stars is a skills competition for every level of professional within each location around the world.  The goal is to grow, develop, and reveal the professionals that demonstrate the best customer service, communication, problem solving, critical thinking, and teamwork skills.  The competition begins in each studio and winners advance to small region, or District, competitions.  From there the District winners advance to the large region, or Area, competition.  Finally, the Area winners advance to the World Championships in Las Vegas where each Area team tests and one team is pronounced the winner.

More importantly, the real winners are the students of the Arthur Murray Dance Studios as these tests, and accompanying training, help to deliver better communication, teamwork, problem solving, and confidence from every member of the staff.

AML: First off, congratulations on moving into the finals in Last Vegas. How did you react when the announcement was made?

LM: I was happy.  It's always nice to be chosen as the top in your area and to represent it with others.

AML: How did you feel going into the Semi-Finals?

LM: I was okay, a little nervous as I had seen everyone go before me come out with mixed emotions  (crying and happy it was over), but better than the quarterfinals for sure.

AML: What kind of last minute things did you do to prepare?

LM: Nothing super exciting.  I came to the studio, drank my coffee, and reread through the scenario and tried to imagine who my case studies were.  Sorry for the dullness!

AML: How has this process made you a better professional?

LM: To be able to adapt to different situations and to make us think on the spot with confidence and honesty.

AML: What's you All Star backstory? If you can give a little synopsis of the highs and lows of this competition over the years.

LM: I have never participated before, however, my district testing was super nerve wracking!  I was super nervous and went blank and hoped my experiences could bring me through it.  Thankfully, the area testing wasn't the same.

AML: What will it mean to you if the team wins it all this year?

LM: It would be such a great thing for this area as it would be the first time we enter!  And, I would just be happy to have been on a team with other great individuals.

AML: Who are some people that helped you get to this point?

LM: My students, my franchisees and colleagues in Japan, Canada, and London where I worked before.  Above all, my parents.  I guess for always teaching me to stay true to whatever I say or do no matter what.

AML: Last question: What does this mean to you? What makes it special?

LM: It's a great opportunity to learn from others from all over the world and seeing their  cultures and their belief systems.  I'ts special as there are only a handful of people selected, so it creates a sense of pride.
