The Dance I Do Not Like (A Poem)

"The Dance I Do Not Like"

I hate you, I hate you
you’re supposed to be easy
but this dancing and talking
makes me unbearably queasy.
****
But alas, a discovery
pure progress, so sweet
as if my legs never realized
that beneath them were feet!
****
I’m moving so smoothly to
Ella, Louis, and Frank
Like walking with dividends
cashed out from the bank.
****
You’re my trusty companion
I depend on you greatly
dressed down at a party
or a gala, so stately.
****
From wedding receptions
to my first competition
I realize your purpose
the reason, the mission.
****
I grapevine and twinkle
with no hesitation
Now I’m talking and dancing
with no queasy sensation.
****
I love you, dear Foxtrot
You have layers and seasons
Now I’m anxious and challenged
but for all the right reasons.

CONCLUSION:

Dances are like relationships.  With some, it's love at first sight.  With others, it's a romantic-comedy.  You hate them, learn more about each other, and then realize you're a perfect fit.  For us, that's the Foxtrot.  For you, it could be any dance on your program that doesn't click.  That's normal.  Just remember:   You can hate it now, but you may love it later.

Happy Dancing!
