What is the Arthur Murray Medal Ball?

The Medal Ball is a graduation event for Arthur Murray Dance students working on their Medalist programs.  Each category, Bronze, Silver, and Gold, is made up of four levels, and students prepared to graduate from one level to another do so by wall of the Medal Ball.

The event itself is broken into three parts:

1.  The In-Studio Checkout

This is where a member of the management visits the student and teacher on a pre-determined lesson to demonstrate the patterns and appropriate technique for the level they are working to complete.

2.  The Practical/Freestyle Checkout

This portion of the graduation, at first glance, looks a lot more like a Dance Party than a dance test.  That's because this portion of the examination process is designed to show how the student leads or follows the dance material in an active dance environment.  A visiting consultant, sometimes with little or no knowledge of the student's dancing, writes feedback and scores the dancing.

3.  The Medalist Ball

When all the graduations are completed, this is the social dancing graduation party for graduates, students, and spectators.  In some cases, this is a themed event, like the Heavy Medal Ball, and will also include dinner, costumes, and a professional exhibition of the Medalist Program in a few dances.
