New Additions at the Arthur Murray District Showcase

If you've been media fasting for the last 6 months, we have some shocking news.   The District Showcase is now a two day event, but that's not the only new thing happening for the upcoming Arthur Murray Bay Area megaevent.  We've got some "News".

New Additions to the Arthur Murray District Showcase

New Videography

This upcoming March Showcase will feature Maude Photography. They are the film crew behind the Unique Dance-O-Rama® and the Hula-Rama, as well as many other local Arthur Murray events. We featured their video in our Hula-Rama recap article, and you can see the type of work that they do.

New Personal Video Services

In addition to creating a montage video of the entire event, Maude Photography will also be offering a limited amount of personal video services. This is a feature at every Dance-O-Rama® and now it is coming to the District Showcase. This allows students to request specific dances they are in to be recorded, and have a camera person assigned to them. Due to the size of our event, this is offered on a first come, first served basis.

A New Theme

Our always-incredible Event Planning Company, Rick Hearns Productions, will be transforming the ballroom on Saturday Night to fit the theme "Carnivale de Brasil". Now, we aren't expecting our students to wear anything like this:

But we encourage you to wear:

  • South American style clothing - Like ruffles, wraps, or just a flower in your hair.
  • Bright Colors - Even if it's just the pocket square to your evening suit
  • Cocktail Attire - This works regardless of what hemisphere of the World you're celebrating

New Dances

If you missed our District Showcase Preview article, the new, two day showcase will allow more time for new styles of dances. So, in addition to the regulars like Waltz, Tango, Swing, Cha-Cha, and Salsa - the event will also feature:

  • International Waltz
  • International Foxtrot
  • International Tango
  • International Viennese Waltz
  • Quickstep
  • International Rumba
  • International Cha-Cha
  • International Samba
  • Jive
  • Paso Doble

New Judges

If you missed the article Showcase Advice From the Arthur Murray Champs, or if you haven't been looking at the posters in your studio, Emmanuel Pierre Antoine and his lovely partner Liana Churliova are joining the District Showcase judging panel, and performing on Saturday Night. Oh yes, and they are the United States American Rhythm Champions too. This will be their first time participating in the Northern California District Showcase, and after the students and staff see their performance, and work with them in the studios - it definitely won't be their last.

Final Thought

An event like this may not fit into your predetermined list of dance goals, but one thing that is on everyone's goal sheet is this: the ability to use what you are learning whenever you want. Just like being able to play piano at a party after piano lessons, to cook for company after cooking lessons, or to play golf without worry after golfing lessons - your dancing is no different.

The District showcase is specifically designed to achieve that goal. So, don't think of it as some glitzy, that's-not-my-thing, only-for-those-dancer-types sort of event. This is an event to acquire the ability to take your dancing public.

If you happen to feel glitzy, improve your dancing, laugh, enjoy a show, and sleep like a baby when it's over - that's just a bonus.

Just don't show up in a skimpy Carnivale outfit.
