A dance consultant can't become a dance consultant on dance talent alone.
Katia Kanevskaya is a rare talent, but it's not just her dancing.  Sure, she can keep up with a guy like Rudy Homm- a talent in its own right - but what she does well goes beyond her own dancing.
Don't call Katia Kanevskaya a dance talent.  She's a talent with people - a connector, communicator, and teacher.

Getting to Know Arthur Murray Consultant:  Katia Kanevskaya

AML:  How did you find dancing, or how did it find you?

KATIA:  I did a year of gymnastics from 4-5 and then my teacher recommended that I continue in ballroom dancing. I did some folk dancing, piano, drawing, and ballet lessons, but slowly, over the years, I dropped everything except dance.

AML:  What are some of your favorite accomplishments as a dancer?

KATIA: I am happy to have won the US nationals as an amateur for 3 consecutive years.  Making the final of Blackpool Rising Star, and recently making the top 16 in the Open Professional at the international championships in London.  As an instructor i am very proud to have danced with a student who won the World Pro-Am championships.

AML: What makes Arthur Murray different than any other dance studio?

KATIA: Since Rudy and I started dancing together, I have joined Arthur Murray and I am still amazed every time I coach at a studio, or judge an event, by the professionalism and teamwork of all involved. It is a very friendly and positive side of the dance world where everyone can find their own place.

AML:  What is your favorite piece of advice you give to students?

KATIA:  My favorite advice would be - the best practice is performing what you have learned. It doesn't matter if its a solo, freestyles, or a spotlight.  That is the fastest way to improve!

Final Thought

Sometimes, when there's an expert in the room, it can be a little intimidating.  The best experts are those that don't carry themselves in a way to remind you of how great they are.  They smile, engage, ask you questions, and create a connection.  Katia is one such expert.  She's an Arthur Murray consultant that chooses to show her expertise for engaging with people ahead of her mastery for ballroom dancing.
We hope you get a chance to meet her.
